What should I do if the crystal fogs or I see water in my watch?
How often should I have my watch serviced?
What else beside water can damage a watch?
If you see any evidence of moisture in your watch have it serviced immediately. Once water is inside a watch it will cause rust on the movement as well as the dial. The longer you wait the more expensive the repair can be.
How often should I have my watch serviced?
Most watch manufacturers suggest servicing a watch every two years. Another popular school of thought is not to have work done unless something is wrong. Some signs that service is needed include; running slower or faster than usual, stopping and starting, date not changing properly, making loud or unusual noise, crystal cracked or loose, crown not working or broken off, moisture in watch.
What else beside water can damage a watch?
When you change the date, you should not change it within three hours of midnight. At this time, the watch's regular date change is being carried out internally and should not be interfered with. Be aware that participation in sports such as golf or baseball, or any repetitive hand movements (as with some occupations) are very hard on the mechanism. These can permanently damage the watch's movement. Just remove your watch. Strong magnetic fields can interfere with the movement also.
